  • Beschrijving: A girl from a good, well-to-do island family, Anna, is studying in the Medical School in Athens. She is in love with a poor fisherman, Dimitris, whom her father doesn’t want as his son-in-law. The young man has a good voice and a talent in singing, and, with the help of an old bouzouki musician, he becomes a popular singer. His new life overwhelms him, and he forgets about Anna as he becomes involved with a spoiled woman, Peggy. This affair, however, has a tragic ending due to a car accident that leaves Peggy dead and Dimitris blind. His friends try to help him, but Dimitris becomes more and more withdrawn. Gradually, he draws away from everyone and everything, until one day Anna finds him in Thessaloniki begging on the street. With her help, he undergoes an operation and thus finds his longed-for sight again as well as unhoped-for happiness beside his beloved.
